Places to Visit in Yorkshire

The Yorkshire Dales are within each reach of many cities, market towns and historic houses.

The ancient city of York

Founded by the Romans in 71 AD, York boasts a huge 13th-century Gothic cathedral and the historic Shambles, one of the best preserved medieval shopping streets in Europe and the inspiration for Diagon Alley in the Harry Potter movies.

History on our doorstep

Treasure Houses of England Harewood and Castle Howard are nearby, the latter famed for its role as the Marchmain family home in the 1981 and 2008 TV and film adaptations of Brideshead Revisited, and more recently the setting for Bridgerton. Both offer private house, garden and grounds tours.

Yorkshire was once the heart of the UK’s textile industry. Many of the historic mill buildings have been transformed into art and design centres, such as Salt’s Mill in nearby Saltaire.

Also within easy reach is Haworth. Home of the Bronte sisters, the town’s historic cobbled streets, iconic parsonage and rolling moors evoke Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights.

Artisan Makers

Yorkshire boasts some of the UK’s most skilled makers and craftspeople, and we can arrange private tours to a number of local breweries, artisan distilleries, craft bakers and creameries, including the home of the Wensleydale Cheese.

Harrogate & Leeds

The Turkish Baths in nearby Harrogate were built in the 1800s in an ornate Moorish style and offer a unique spa experience.

The city of Leeds offers abundant nightlife, dining and shopping.
